Well, here's a turn-up for the books – it's not often the 'Afrobeat Remix' of anything is the one that floats my boat the most but that's definitely the case with this latest from Formula Records.
That said… there's nothing particularly Afro-y about said remix at all. Instead it's just a big, throbbing, bass-y groove, infused with the spirit of the 90s but very suitable for rocking today's floors without a doubt. Indeed, the phrase 'monster tune' would not be unwarranted.
Elsewhere on the EP, the Original, Raw Re-Dub and passes from Tom Wax and Matches (about whom more tomorrow) all explore various flavours of deep/tech house perfectly satisfactorily, with the silver medal going to Wax for his Detroit-sounding strings n' pads… but as I said, it's the Afrobeat Remix that's the killer here.
Out: This week
About: Formula is part of the Factoria/Factomania stable and can be found here, while I should also point out that Richtberg and Wojkowski hail from Mannheim and are behind what I'm told is one of Germany's most popular dance music radio shows, Tronic Love.
